Victory Outreach — Portland, Oregon
Our biggest ever single-day delivery took place in December.
You wouldn't have known how gray the day was in Portland — because the welcome from members of Victory Outreach Church was bright and inviting.
The Linen Closet had worked with Victory Outreach's men's and women's transitional homes before, providing new bedding bundles. This time they reached out to us in the fall with a larger ask: support a new 100-bed transitional shelter opening in downtown Portland, in the historic Charles F. Berg building — one block from Nordstrom on Pioneer Square.
We shipped the entire delivery of sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels in advance, then held a work party to assemble all the bedding bundles — each one including our signature "You Are Loved" message. Before all the hard work, we prayed. After all the hard work, we enjoyed lunch together. What an extraordinary day.
Helping hands from Victory Outreach and Columbia Presbyterian Church made light work of the heaps of boxes. And throughout the day, we heard stories — of how God changed people's lives in prison, how they were saved from human trafficking and gang involvement, how they are healing from addiction.
Since 1991, Victory Outreach has provided faith-based recovery homes for men and women in Portland and surrounding cities, helping individuals overcome drug addiction, alcoholism, homelessness, gang involvement, and domestic violence through a comprehensive, faith-based approach. It is their vision to Reach, Teach, and Equip individuals with the tools needed to live a positive and productive life.
