From Sea to Shining Sea — Five New Shelters in One Month

July 1, 2022

Deb Berg at Cornerstone Rescue Mission in Rapid City, South Dakota

Dear Friends,

The Linen Closet continues to deliver comfort, hope, and dignity to the homeless. Thanks to your unwavering support and encouragement, we reached five more transitional shelters in the past month: Cornerstone Rescue Mission in South Dakota, The Bridge Home in Iowa, One80 Place in South Carolina, Patriot Villas in South Carolina, and the EOA Tom D. Austin House in Georgia.

You would not believe the enthusiasm for this mission of love.

As we traveled across the country, we learned that the patterns are the same everywhere: not enough affordable housing, poverty on the rise, a startling number of homeless families with small children. Violence in the home increased significantly during the pandemic. Many people lost their jobs, and even a short illness threatens the ability to pay rent.

Here in Washington, we are also delivering new bed linens to a refugee family from Afghanistan — one of many ways the need for this mission reaches further than we ever anticipated.

As one man in Savannah put it: "You are preparing beds for people we haven't even met yet!"

We may not know them — but God does. Together we are serving a woman coming out of prison, a veteran with nowhere to go, a couple who has lost everything, or a refugee family. This is the work you are doing.

Thank you. Big Love.
