What We Found at Home Goods — A Story of Unexpected Generosity

January 27, 2020

Shopping carts full of sheets and blankets purchased at Home Goods for The Linen Closet

My mother and I were buying sheets and blankets for The Linen Closet at Home Goods in Portland, Oregon. After we paid, we pushed two full shopping carts to the exit where we waited for my dad to pull up with the car.

While waiting, a woman who had also been in the long line to check out came up to us and asked if we were "doing work for the Lord." We said yes. She immediately said she wanted to be a part of it.

This kind woman went back through Home Goods — and the long checkout line — to donate new sheets on the spot. She told us she had prayed earlier in the week for God to show her where she could help. She said she received her answer while waiting in line behind us.

So what did we find at Home Goods? Friendship, love, care, and generosity.

Kathy at Share Vancouver receiving linen donations during the pandemic

Those donations — and many like them — went to Share Vancouver, where Kathy was prepared to receive them even during the pandemic. We socially distanced in their huge warehouse and were grateful for the chance to keep delivering even in the hardest months of 2020.

We give many thanks to front-line workers during that time, and to our donors who made every delivery possible.
