Haywood Pathways Center — Waynesville, North Carolina
Julie Cloninger (Assistant Director) and Ched Ellis (Programs Director) received the new sheets after Hurricane Helene.
We were thankful to be able to support Haywood Pathways Center in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene by sending new sheets.
Haywood Pathways Center is the only transitional center in western North Carolina. When we called and asked if they needed new linens in the wake of the hurricane, they told us they did need sheets — but not because of the hurricane. They just needed sheets. Incredibly, their shelter had generators and very little damage.
That resilience is a testament to the people running this place.
Their mission is guided by faith, love, and respect — providing food, shelter, and individualized supportive services to Haywood County residents.
They also have a fascinating origin story. The transitional shelter is housed in a former prison facility. In 2014, the idea took shape when they won a contest to have Ty Pennington come for a "Flip the Prison" transformation. A place once built to confine is now a place of help and home for people rebuilding their lives.
